Tie Me Up Baby!

With yesterday's post on tutus still spilling sprinkles onto my computer screen, I vowed to delve into the untreaded path of baby/toddler boyswear and find an equivalent. While the tutu is so obviously princess-worthy in all it's diaphanous specialness, which one item from the little man's wardrobe can be held to such high esteem?  Is it one specific accessory such as the jaunty cap (I especially adore the denim train condocter cap my son has been sporting since the moment he was born) . Or could it be a piece deemed awesome for its ability to add depth to an outfit (say the plaid/gingham shirt in all it's layering glory). While no one item says "Prince" quite as clearly as the tutu spells out "Princess", there is one piece when any little man dons conjures images of über-coolness with a dash of retro-flavour. Dear Readers, may I introduce you, and your little guy, to the tie and all its transformative power.

While the tutu, regardless of colour, shape, or way it is worn, conjures up one crystal-clear image,  the tie is a multi-functioning accessory which can be worn to the effect of aslew of different personalities and images including the preppy look, the geekster look and the rocker look. Never has one little accessory created so many dichotomous looks on your little fashioable guy. So here again we turn to Tots Around Town to garner what we can from the tie and it's style pairings:

Kingston Rossdale, son of rocksters Gwen & Gavin, must have inheirited said Rockster Genes as he sports both the long tie, jazzing it up with a kalediscope of prints: on tie, pants & cap; as well as bringing out the dandy in himself as he takes the traditional bow-tie and opts for a white button-down and loafers plus a pair of dark wash denims instead of an expected tux.

Mason Disick, son of Kourtney Kardashian, dons a similar outfit with black patent shoes and a formal coiffed hair-do.
Then of course there is Romeo Cruz. With such a Don Quixote-ish sort of name and such parental glamour to live up to, its no wonder he rocks the tie by taking it from daywear to nightwear. Could mama, Victoria Beckham, Queen of haute fashion, have something to do with this style transformation?

Finally, we know that women everywhere love to borrow from their boyfriend's closets (think tailored button-ups, blazers, and the ubiquitous Boyfriend Jean).  It is no surprise, therefore, that Shiloh Jolie-Pitt takes boyswear and puts her own feminine spin on it to create an unexpected and wholly original look. Whether with a loosly looped tie completing an outfit in sharp contrast to sister Zahara or showing the world how boys-inspired formal wear can be tailored for girls.

Tired of all the little fashionable femmes getting all the fun in the accessory department? Fear not, Dear Reader, Bows and Buttons is about to change all that. Whether you're lovin' the traditinal long tie, the swanky bow tie, or the printed trompe l'oeil onesie look, check out my fav cravats down below:
